It's always surprising to me when something becomes "news" years after you've internally debated it yourself. We used to see huge, quarter-page ads that asked for very specific women ("We're looking for a highly intelligent brunette over six feet tall to make our dreams come true." Seriously) in our campus newspaper. I can't find a copy of the Daily Princetonian article about the ads from 1998 or so, but I remember it mentioned that the couples were working through an agency, and that the donor would receive upwards of $10,000. The National Enquirer even ran an expose on the thing back then!
